Rod used to call himself Rodelda and to this day no one knows why. He has a wide variety of interests and hobbies including history (particularly the civil war), camping, Glee (this is strictly confidential:), astronomy, animals, Frank Sinatra, fishing, and playing video games. He is an avid reader of all genres but particularly enjoys fantasy, science fiction, and historical novels.

On January 28, 2012, while driving a moving truck, Rod's vehicle left the road and fell roughly 100 feet onto the train tracks below. It is a miracle that he survived and we find many more miracles as he continues on his quest toward recovery. He has already undergone multiple surgeries to repair breaks and injuries and will have many more in the weeks to come. Thank you for all of your thoughts and prayers in Rod, Sara, and Jack's behalf. We truly appreciate them and you!

Welcome to the Blog

Hello friends and family,

It seems that Rod's condition changes almost every hour and we hope that this blog will help to keep everyone updated. We appreciate everyone's concern, support, and prayers.

Rod is currently at the hospital in the ICU. Although he is kept heavily sedated, we know that he hears us and he sometimes responds to our conversations with slight movement in his left hand and face.

Both of his legs have been crushed in multiple places and he has had multiple surgeries to repair them. His right leg is worse than his left and doctors will have to fuse the bones in his ankle, restricting the movement and making that leg shorter than the left. It is unclear yet if and how well he will be able to walk again. His collar bone is broken along with some injuries to his left arm. His jaw is also broken in multiple places and will be repaired within the next week.

There have been other fractures and tears found in his brain and spine. However, for the few minutes that they have awakened him, he has been able to quickly respond and follow all the commands that he was given so the doctors are not as concerned with these injuries.

His fluid levels and heart rate have been a little unstable and the doctors are working at finding the cause. There are still tests that need to be done and more injuries may be found as his condition stabilizes. So far, they have not found any significant injury to his brain or vital organs which is completely miraculous!

Rod is scheduled for surgery tomorrow to place a feeding tube into his stomach and a tracheostomy (which allows him to breath through his neck), so that his jaw can be repaired. Because of strict visiting policies and the level of equipment and care required, please call the family ahead of time if you would like to visit. We are also happy to pass along any messages to Rod and Sara as well. If you know of someone who would like access to this blog, let me know. We would like to reserve it for family and close friends.

Again, thank you sincerely for all of your thoughts and prayers!
