Rod used to call himself Rodelda and to this day no one knows why. He has a wide variety of interests and hobbies including history (particularly the civil war), camping, Glee (this is strictly confidential:), astronomy, animals, Frank Sinatra, fishing, and playing video games. He is an avid reader of all genres but particularly enjoys fantasy, science fiction, and historical novels.

On January 28, 2012, while driving a moving truck, Rod's vehicle left the road and fell roughly 100 feet onto the train tracks below. It is a miracle that he survived and we find many more miracles as he continues on his quest toward recovery. He has already undergone multiple surgeries to repair breaks and injuries and will have many more in the weeks to come. Thank you for all of your thoughts and prayers in Rod, Sara, and Jack's behalf. We truly appreciate them and you!

The Journey so Far

Today has been a much better day for Rod and much more quiet. Because the infection is clearing so well, they were able to remove the wound vac from his right leg! Without surgeries and physical therapy, Rod had a calm schedule and was actually able to visit with his family without too many interruptions from doctors and nurses. Even though his mom has spent almost every day with him, it was the first day she really felt like she could sit and talk with him.

Rod also spent time tonight going through this blog with his dad. It was the first time that he's seen it and had the chance to see and reflect on everything that's happened and where he's come. It was a special moment. It was a chance for them to discuss the many tender mercies and opportunities that have come from this experience so far and for Rod to read many of the encouraging comments and support. Sometimes it's easier to keep moving down the long trail ahead if you look back and see how far you've already come. And Rod has already come a long
way. We are proud of him.
