Rod used to call himself Rodelda and to this day no one knows why. He has a wide variety of interests and hobbies including history (particularly the civil war), camping, Glee (this is strictly confidential:), astronomy, animals, Frank Sinatra, fishing, and playing video games. He is an avid reader of all genres but particularly enjoys fantasy, science fiction, and historical novels.

On January 28, 2012, while driving a moving truck, Rod's vehicle left the road and fell roughly 100 feet onto the train tracks below. It is a miracle that he survived and we find many more miracles as he continues on his quest toward recovery. He has already undergone multiple surgeries to repair breaks and injuries and will have many more in the weeks to come. Thank you for all of your thoughts and prayers in Rod, Sara, and Jack's behalf. We truly appreciate them and you!

More Plans!

Rod had an appointment today with the foot doctors at the U. They said that everything so far seems to be healing well; the 21 rods holding things in place are right where they should be and there is no symptoms of infection in any of them. Doctors are still undecided as to whether they will leave the left ankle wound to heal with the wound vac or close it with a skin graft. There are plans to remove the tracheostomy (finally!) on Monday along with the feeding tube. Rod has been doing well both with breathing and eating and this will be a big step. With these things removed, Rod can be transported in a van to his appointments instead of an ambulance.

With all these goals and Rod's recent progress, they are now looking at another transfer to a step down facility. We were hoping for a rehab facility but since he cannot yet bear weight on his legs, the case workers are thinking a skilled nursing facility might be needed first. Everyone is researching into insurance coverage and the different facilities available. Each new place is a step closer to home!
