We were all very excited for Rod and Sara to move up here from Bullfrog but we never expected Rod to turn into one! After the therapist removed Rod's trach today, they covered the hole with a large gauze and clear plastic strip. Although the hole is covered, air still passes through when he talks and Rod quickly discovered that when he breathes in, the gauze sucks in...when he breathes out, the gauze puffs out, making him look like a bullfrog. And to add to the fun, all the sucking and puffing blew a tiny leak through the bandage creating an amusing squeak when he breathes.
Doctors also told Rod that he could bear weight in his right wrist today so he was able to work on a new machine during therapy. He was very excited to be able to work on more exercises.
Tomorrow will be another big day. The feeding tube should be removed (imagine what he'll be able to do through that hole!) and he has an appointment at the U with the jaw doctor. Ribbitt!
