Rod used to call himself Rodelda and to this day no one knows why. He has a wide variety of interests and hobbies including history (particularly the civil war), camping, Glee (this is strictly confidential:), astronomy, animals, Frank Sinatra, fishing, and playing video games. He is an avid reader of all genres but particularly enjoys fantasy, science fiction, and historical novels.

On January 28, 2012, while driving a moving truck, Rod's vehicle left the road and fell roughly 100 feet onto the train tracks below. It is a miracle that he survived and we find many more miracles as he continues on his quest toward recovery. He has already undergone multiple surgeries to repair breaks and injuries and will have many more in the weeks to come. Thank you for all of your thoughts and prayers in Rod, Sara, and Jack's behalf. We truly appreciate them and you!

Giving Knuckles

When Derrick first walked into his room today, Rod opened his eyes and slowly lifted his fist to give Derrick a welcoming knuckle bump! Although very drowsy, Rod has been able to communicate and visit with family today. The tracheostomy is irritating but he is very happy to have the intubation tube out of his mouth and throat. He still cannot talk or move his jaw but is able to mouth some words and sentences. He can type some communication on a portable spelling device. One of his first questions was "When can I come home?" I think he's looking forward to a warm comfortable bed and some of Sara's cooking! His next surgery isn't scheduled until Friday so he spent the day getting much needed rest and support.

On more of a technical note, some people are still having trouble accessing the blog. This is the only way I knew how to set it up and didn't realize that it doesn't work well for non-gmail accounts. I am so sorry and we will continue to try to get everyone involved. Also, if you are viewing the blog from a mobile device, it will automatically switch to a different template to make it easier to read.

  1. Those pictures gave me the biggest smile. I am so happy to see him smiling! That smile means more than anything the Drs could say. Love you Rod!

  2. Now that is one sloppy smile, lol!

On a technical note, you could create a generic gmail account and just send the login name and password to everyone with the link to this blog. Let me know if you want some help setting that up.

    Thanks!
