Rod used to call himself Rodelda and to this day no one knows why. He has a wide variety of interests and hobbies including history (particularly the civil war), camping, Glee (this is strictly confidential:), astronomy, animals, Frank Sinatra, fishing, and playing video games. He is an avid reader of all genres but particularly enjoys fantasy, science fiction, and historical novels.

On January 28, 2012, while driving a moving truck, Rod's vehicle left the road and fell roughly 100 feet onto the train tracks below. It is a miracle that he survived and we find many more miracles as he continues on his quest toward recovery. He has already undergone multiple surgeries to repair breaks and injuries and will have many more in the weeks to come. Thank you for all of your thoughts and prayers in Rod, Sara, and Jack's behalf. We truly appreciate them and you!

The Iron Man!

In addition to the plates and pins in his legs, Rod's jaw is also now plated and wired shut. His surgery tonight lasted about 4 hours and was very successful. The surgeons felt that it went very well and that his jaw should be wired for about 6 weeks. After that it will take dentists, orthodontists and speech/physical therapy to help regain correct movements again, but the doctor said once the jaw was wired together, the jaw was easily aligned. We just won't be able to send Rod through a metal detector any time soon.

Despite his hard metallic interior, Rod is gaining a reputation with the hospital staff for his soft heart and kindness. Even though he has a difficult time speaking at all, there is not a nurse or doctor that can leave his room without Rod saying "thank you." It doesn't matter if they're there to bring him news, check his monitors, or even if their care causes him pain (moving and repositioning), he thanks them. He is truly an inspiration.

  2. What a special privilege and blessing it was for me as I stayed with Rod through the night. He was in a lot of discomfort and pain and yet we had some wonderful conversations - me talking and Rod typing on the tablet.
