Rod used to call himself Rodelda and to this day no one knows why. He has a wide variety of interests and hobbies including history (particularly the civil war), camping, Glee (this is strictly confidential:), astronomy, animals, Frank Sinatra, fishing, and playing video games. He is an avid reader of all genres but particularly enjoys fantasy, science fiction, and historical novels.

On January 28, 2012, while driving a moving truck, Rod's vehicle left the road and fell roughly 100 feet onto the train tracks below. It is a miracle that he survived and we find many more miracles as he continues on his quest toward recovery. He has already undergone multiple surgeries to repair breaks and injuries and will have many more in the weeks to come. Thank you for all of your thoughts and prayers in Rod, Sara, and Jack's behalf. We truly appreciate them and you!

Ups and Downs

The last few days have been up and down for Rod....the fevers go up, the fevers go down....the pain goes up, the pain goes down. For most of Saturday he was not allowed to eat because they thought he may need another surgery to clean out the infection in his right foot again. He did not end up having the surgery however, and he is continuing to overcome the infections.

Today was a more quiet day. He was able to spend a few hours with Sara tonight and even fell asleep quite early and easily. So far, the plan is to leave him where he is until the fevers and pain can be controlled. Then they may move him to a different, long-term care hospital while the infection subsides. From there he'll go back to the University Hospital for surgeries then will return to the other hospital for recovery and therapy. As for this coming week, there are no current plans for more surgery or moving hospitals-but things can change quickly, so stay tuned and we will see what this week will hold for Rod.
