Rod used to call himself Rodelda and to this day no one knows why. He has a wide variety of interests and hobbies including history (particularly the civil war), camping, Glee (this is strictly confidential:), astronomy, animals, Frank Sinatra, fishing, and playing video games. He is an avid reader of all genres but particularly enjoys fantasy, science fiction, and historical novels.

On January 28, 2012, while driving a moving truck, Rod's vehicle left the road and fell roughly 100 feet onto the train tracks below. It is a miracle that he survived and we find many more miracles as he continues on his quest toward recovery. He has already undergone multiple surgeries to repair breaks and injuries and will have many more in the weeks to come. Thank you for all of your thoughts and prayers in Rod, Sara, and Jack's behalf. We truly appreciate them and you!

One Day Closer

Posted by Scott Porter:

The day after surgery is always a difficult one, and today was no different for Rod.  After becoming more and more independent in the days leading up to surgery, today he has had to rely on the help of others.  Rod has had some wonderful nurses today, that have helped him be as comfortable as possible.  Both of his legs have been extremely painful, and the goal was just to get through the day.

Currently I'm sitting next to Rod while he sleeps.  My job is to be here for him should he need anything through the night.  I feel so privileged to be here, to be able to show him that I care.  I know this blog isn't about me, but I wanted to share the feelings I have.  Rod's accident and recovery has been difficult, but the opportunity I've had to come closer to him is something I wouldn't trade for anything.

Tomorrow will be a new day for Rod, he's one day closer on the road to recovery.
