Rod's right foot was unwrapped today to reveal the many rods and wires holding it in place. It really is amazing to see. They were unable to change his trach to a smaller size today because too much skin and tissue has grown around it and they were unable to get it out. They are going to wait until next week when a different physician is available. Rod also had an appointment today at the U that was postponed a few weeks until they can evaluate how well he can eat. Now that his jaw is no longer wired shut, they are wanting to see how he tolerates food so they can remove the feeding tube. Doctors did remove the wound vac from his left ankle today and think it is healing well enough not to require any more work at this point. With all these tubes, IV's, cannulas, pins and rods, "Rod" suddenly seems to be an appropriate name.
Rod used to call himself Rodelda and to this day no one knows why. He has a wide variety of interests and hobbies including history (particularly the civil war), camping, Glee (this is strictly confidential:), astronomy, animals, Frank Sinatra, fishing, and playing video games. He is an avid reader of all genres but particularly enjoys fantasy, science fiction, and historical novels.
On January 28, 2012, while driving a moving truck, Rod's vehicle left the road and fell roughly 100 feet onto the train tracks below. It is a miracle that he survived and we find many more miracles as he continues on his quest toward recovery. He has already undergone multiple surgeries to repair breaks and injuries and will have many more in the weeks to come. Thank you for all of your thoughts and prayers in Rod, Sara, and Jack's behalf. We truly appreciate them and you!

We don't call him Rod for nothing...
