Rod used to call himself Rodelda and to this day no one knows why. He has a wide variety of interests and hobbies including history (particularly the civil war), camping, Glee (this is strictly confidential:), astronomy, animals, Frank Sinatra, fishing, and playing video games. He is an avid reader of all genres but particularly enjoys fantasy, science fiction, and historical novels.

On January 28, 2012, while driving a moving truck, Rod's vehicle left the road and fell roughly 100 feet onto the train tracks below. It is a miracle that he survived and we find many more miracles as he continues on his quest toward recovery. He has already undergone multiple surgeries to repair breaks and injuries and will have many more in the weeks to come. Thank you for all of your thoughts and prayers in Rod, Sara, and Jack's behalf. We truly appreciate them and you!

Almost home!

There is talk of possibly sending Rod home on Tuesday! This past week, he practiced transferring himself from a wheelchair to a van and was able to do so successfully by himself. The family has been busy preparing the house for his anticipated return. We will keep everyone posted if and when this happens.

Until then, we'll leave you with yet another picture of Rod and Jack taking a nap together. These moments together are just too cute. Jack has really enjoyed sitting by his daddy, taking wheelchair rides, and snuggling up for a snooze.

  1. Here's another inspiring quote to consider, like those in the right-hand column,
shared by our son Steve shortly after his stroke:
"How can there be redemption and resurrection
Unless there has been great sorrow?
    And isn't the struggle
    And rising
The real work in our lives?"
    --Mary Oliver

With love, and admiration for your determination,
