The doctors were very concerned about his risk for infection and although he had high fevers for a few days afterwards, there does not seem to be any infection. Because of that risk, he has not been able to do all the recommended therapy machines, but he has been walking frequently with a walker. On the fourth day after surgery, he walked 540 feet! The doctors initially thought he'd have to stay in the hospital for over a week, but Rod did so well that he came home yesterday.
Rod used to call himself Rodelda and to this day no one knows why. He has a wide variety of interests and hobbies including history (particularly the civil war), camping, Glee (this is strictly confidential:), astronomy, animals, Frank Sinatra, fishing, and playing video games. He is an avid reader of all genres but particularly enjoys fantasy, science fiction, and historical novels.
On January 28, 2012, while driving a moving truck, Rod's vehicle left the road and fell roughly 100 feet onto the train tracks below. It is a miracle that he survived and we find many more miracles as he continues on his quest toward recovery. He has already undergone multiple surgeries to repair breaks and injuries and will have many more in the weeks to come. Thank you for all of your thoughts and prayers in Rod, Sara, and Jack's behalf. We truly appreciate them and you!

A New Knee
Rod had his first knee surgery last Tuesday and it went very well. He had a total knee replacement including the ligaments. He also had the previous hardware removed which included 3 rods and 20 screws.

Since coming home, Rod has continued with walking and home therapy. He even had time to lose a game of chess with Sam. Rod has more follow up appointments with another surgeon tomorrow to discuss his next knee surgery that may take place in another few weeks if he continues to do so well.
